Toshiba is giving its Toshiba TG01 some Windows Mobile 6.5 love come October 6. The handset has been spotted before with Windows Mobile 6.5 but now Toshiba is making the news official, re-launching the TG01 as a Windows Phone on October 6 to include Windows Mobile 6.5 and also releasing an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 for existing owners.
The Toshiba TG01 is one of the fastest Windows Mobile smartphones on the market today, making use of the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor in a super slim body that houses a large touchscreen. However, despite its innovative features, the history of the TG01 hasn’t been all great. The device, at one point, had shipped with a virus and some users were complaining of some lag despite the 1 GHz of smartphone computing power. Hopefully, with 6.5 upgrades, Toshiba has optimized the firmware to take advantage of the innovative hardware offerings as we would like to love the TG01 for being an innovative offering.
Even with a refresh for the TG01, Toshiba is already hard at work at a successor. The TG02 was recently spotted over at our favorite regulatory agency, the FCC, and a TG03 was also leaked some time ago as part of the company’s roadmap. Toshiba usually releases hardware that packs a lot of technology for a fairly reasonable price. The trend to push the hardware boundaries and maintain affordability started in the company’s early history with its e740 PDA.
