Microsoft has acquired Skype in what appears to be the deal of the year (and not only) with Redmond paying up $8.5 billion in cash to get access to Skype’s offerings and portfolio of over 600 million registered users.
According to an official Federal Trade Commission post, Microsoft received the U.S. antitrust approval to go through with the purchase of the Internet phone service provider Skype. FTC has weekly listings of approved deals and according to Reuters, the Microsoft-Skype deal has just received the green light to finalize the deal. Together with Skype and Nokia, Microsoft could very well be on its way to creating something extraordinary.
