In a move similar to US carrier AT&T, Telus Canada is offering free calling and texts to Japan in its efforts to support those affected by the tragic events of last week.
Besides pecuniary donations, the carrier will not charge for calls and texts to Japan made from regular Telus wireless accounts while working on extending to Telus pay-as-you-go services as well. Texts will not be charged even if you don’t have a texting plan. “We’re doing what we can. This touches Telus in a very personal way; we’ve got team members with ties to Japan as well as customers with strong ties to Japan and we want to do what we can for them“, said Spokesperson Shawn Hall. We wish more carriers would join worldwide in times like these though we wished times and events alike would never happen.
