As was the case in the television industry, OEMs that make smartphone are hoping that 3D is the next big thing that drives millions of consumers to upgrade to more expensive hardware. We are in the midst of the first wave of 3D phone releases: today you can buy an LG Optimus 3D, the Sprint HTC EVO 3D, and a couple others. It remains to be seen whether 3D on a phone will play out like it did with televisions (few have upgraded), or if the new technology will be a true value-add that becomes standard on all future high end smartphones. Those of you that are using a 3D smartphone, let us know in the comments and in the poll how often you use the 3D functionality of your smarpthone.
