Smartphones and even tablets could soon get THX certification as many of the new models now feature options to output media to a flat screen via HDMI. Rick Dean, Senior Vice President of THX, strongly believes that “we are actively going down that path right now”.
Few people really believed in the past that we’ll be able to output high definition content to a big screen from our phones but at present, more and more people are using their devices as a media player too. This is where THX thinks can help manufacturers improve by cleverly using compression technologies and DSP (digital signal processing). How often do you watch movies on your big screen from your phone and would your experience improve if cinematic THX certification was a standard in smartphones?
