According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Samsung is planning on going open source with its own smartphone platform, Bada. That means that other developers and manufacturers will be able to freely use the platform.
This may or may not have something to do with the story we ran recently about Samsung preparing its own Linux-based platform (based on Bada) after the Google-Motorola deal. Regardless, it will give the manufacturer that certain boost necessary to differentiate and become more independent of Android. Samsung recently announced the second version of Bada, 2.0, running on three phones announced prior to IFA: Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y.
