With the Palm Pre–a device which we previously reviewed and covered–supporting multiple Exchange accounts from reports, it seems natural that Palm would want to beef up Exchange features. The latest forthcoming Palm Pre webOS update to firmware 1.1 within the next month or so will bring more security features to Palm’s Exchange ActiveSync implementation. Those features include:
-IT initiated Remote Wipe
-Device requires a PIM/password
-Minimum PIN/password length (1-n characters)
-Device wipe on X (maximum) number of failed PIN attempts
-Auto-lock after X minutes of inactivity
Increased security on the device will mean that Palm is looking for more corporate acceptance. The iPhone experienced similar entry into the corporate sector against BlackBerry and Windows Mobile platforms as it adopted Exchange and implemented more security features.
