Nokia first introduced Symbian Anna to us with the debut of its E6 and X7 handsets, only recently have we seen the OS update arrive for existing Symbian models. Could the company be planning something similar for the release of Symbian Belle? We may know shortly, as Nokia’s put a timer up on its Facebook page counting down to Wednesday morning, promising “something new on Symbian”.
So far, there’s been a leak of an in-development version of Belle, which some users have successfully flashed to N8s. We haven’t learned if this release is planned as a stand-alone update, or if Nokia will be using it to introduce some new hardware, as it did for Anna. We’re still waiting for three of the four 1GHz Symbians we heard rumored a few months ago, and at least two of those are slated to ship with Belle.
Perhaps the biggest clue that this countdown is Belle-related was the discovery of a link to the Flash animation displaying the clock that includes mention of Belle in its URL. That version’s since been renamed, but the cat might be out of the bag. We’ll know for sure in two days.
