Nokia’s N9 was supposed to be Nokia’s first MeeGo-powered smartphone and we heard several reports of the device going as back as summer 2010.
Two different industry sources claiming to be close to the matter told Reuters that the Finnish manufacturer is cancelling the N9 — as Nokia’s first MeeGo smartphone — before it even had the chance of being launched. Created by Nokia together with Intel, MeeGo was supposed to try and grab a piece of Apple and Google; worry not as rumor has it Nokia is preparing to show off the next MeeGo device, even if unfinished, at a press conference in London this Friday or even at the Mobile World Congress next week.
Whether or not cancelling the N9 has anything to do with recent rumors of Nokia preparing for something big — as in even switching to Android or Windows Phone 7 — is yet unknown but we’ll surely know much more by this time next week!
