We’ve already seen progress being made towards the next major update to come after Nokia Belle, which we know as Carla. As it turns out, Nokia has other plans for Belle before it comes time to release Carla, as it will be introducing Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1 along with the 808 PureView, as revealed at the Mobile World Congress. Today Nokia went into some detail on the features we’ll see in FP1, and it all sounds like very good news.
Besides the 808, Nokia has committed to bringing FP1 to the 603, 700, and 701, all phones that originally shipped with Belle. This release will be especially notable for 700 and 701 users, as it will speed-up the processor on your phone from 1GHz to 1.3GHz; we usually hear about OS updates claiming speed improvements, but rarely see such drastic changes as these being implemented.
As for software changes, Nokia’s offering some extended Dolby support for improved sound quality, as well as delivering 20-some new widgets for you to deploy. Updates to system software attempt to improve notifications and the multitasking bar. You’ll also find a new browser, claiming speed improvements and now supporting HTML5, as well as the latest Nokia Maps and Microsoft Apps.
Look for the FP1 update to arrive for the 603, 700, and 701 in “the coming months”.
