The Nokia Astound on T-Mobile is essentially the Nokia C7 the rest of the world is familiar with. Just because they’re the same hardware, though, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily treated the same. We most recently saw this disparity when the C7 started getting software updates to Symbian Anna last August, while the Astound didn’t have a chance until three months later. Now that Nokia Belle updates are going out, will we see a similarly disappointing wait for the Astound’s update? The “disappointing” part might be spot-on, but we wouldn’t exactly call it “waiting”, as Nokia has announced that T-Mobile will never be updating the Astound past Anna.
Two nights ago, we shared with you a website Nokia had put online to let its users track which phones would be getting Belle updates, in which countries, and when. Navigate through to North America and the US, and you’ll find the Astound conspicuously absent. The C7 itself gets Belle, if you’ve imported a model, but there’s not even confirmation here that T-Mobile rejected the possibility of an update. To get that, we have to turn to Twitter, where Nokia’s US account posted in no uncertain terms that the Astound won’t be getting Belle. It didn’t even leave the door open for an update three months down the line, like with Anna; sorry, Astound users.
