The Motorola Droid took home three awards from the 2009 Engadget Awards, winning in the category of best gadget, best smartphone, and best GPS. The Droid is one of the first Android smartphone that was a hit with consumers, partly due to the huge marketing campaign with Verizon Wireless.
2009 was a busy year for smartphones with the release of the HTC Hero, the HTC Touch Pro2 and Diamond2, the HTC HD2 internationally, the Droid, webOS-based Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. 2010 is already shaping up to be even more memorable as Windows Phone 7 Series devices may be rolling out by the end of the year.
