The much beloved HTC PRO.Three, which was slated for a December launch, may actually drop on October 14–sorry US readers, please look away as this isn’t for you–a good few months earlier than anticipated. Carrier O2 has the device listed as the HD2 for the launch date, a surprising move considering that O2 usually rebrands its smartphones under the XDA name. Perhaps, HTC is actually working harder than you think to promote its own brand rather than letting carriers steal the limelight.
The October 14 date should hopefully mean that the capacitive touchscreen device is launched with Windows Mobile 6.5 out of the box and with Marketplace intact–those are set to debut on October 6 according to Microsoft. The 14th puts the launch date curiously between Windows Mobile 6.5 and the desktop Windows 7 launch.
Additionally, the HD2 moniker confirms earlier rumors about the naming convention. In earlier looks at the device, many found that when Bluetooth was activated and set to discoverable, other devices recognized the PRO.Three as the HD2.
