US cable company Cox was caught with its branding on an HTC-made Android device that is identical to the US-based Sprint HTC Hero. According to the report, the Cox-branded device was able to browse the net only at 1xRTT and not able to utilize the faster CDMA 3G protocol of EV-DO or EV-DO Rev. A.
Cox is standing out as the sole major cable company that’s entering the USA mobile telephony business with an LTE 4G plan–the cable company’s competitors have inked deals with Clearwire to utilize WiMax in the USA for 4G network deployments. Cox has also committed itself to CDMA technologies for 3G deployment.
