You might have heard about VIA if you are techy enough or built your own PC; they are building chipsets and processors for a while now, that are key components to computers. The company also was a shareholder in S3 Graphics Co., Ltd, specialized in graphics visualization technologies used in PCs, game consoles and, more recently, mobile devices.
HTC has acquired VIA Technologies’ complete shareholding in S3 Graphics Co., Ltd, which it acquired in 2001. HTC is paying $300 million, of which VIA will receive US$147 million and WTI will receive US$153 million. VIA, WTI, and HTC boards already approved the transaction but the Taiwanese phone maker didn’t give out any details of its plans with S3. If it receives all approvals, the transaction will end before the end of 2011 and will hopefully bring some more innovation to HTC mobile devices.
