First Angry Birds Rio Footage Shows Big Changes (Video)

Pocket Gamer has managed to capture some of the first footage of the third title in the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Rio, revealing that the game is quite a bit different than its predecessors. Of course the general concepts of slinging birds and realistic physics have been maintained, but gone are the pigs of Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons, with the heroes now using their powers to free various jungle friends and — in a completely new type of gameplay for the franchise — engage in bird-on-bird “boss levels.”

Somewhat like the Christmas installment of Seasons, which opened one level per day for 25 days in the vein of an advent calendar, Rio will deliver one world per month throughout the summer. The game will only be available at launch through the upcoming Amazon Appstore, acting as a flagship product for the first major player to challenge the Android Market.
