Gowalla is a location-based social network, pretty much like Foursquare, which allows its users to check in at places in their vicinity and share that with their friends. According to recent reports, Facebook has acquired Gowalla for an undisclosed amount.
A person close to Gowalla claims that Facebook has acquired the location sharing service provider but Facebook officials declined to comment. According to the rumors, Gowalla employees, together with Gowalla founder Josh Williams, will move to Facebook’s HQ where they will be working on implementing features in the upcoming Facebook Timeline. There’s no information regarding the future of the Gowalla mobile application but, with Facebook allowing for Check-ins and the rumored Timeline design for mobile phones, it could be integrated in the Facebook app.
