“AT&T Inc and Deutsche Telekom AG are continuing to pursue the sale of Deutsche Telekom’s U.S. wireless assets to AT&T,” said the official statement today, as the two parties have decided to withdraw the merger application from the Commission.
At the moment, the deal is frowned upon by both FCC and DOJ so it is just normal that the two parties withdraw the application from the Commission until (if) the DOJ gives its blessing. Of course the filing with the FCC will be revisited once there is DOJ approval but just in case that will not happen, AT&T plans to take a $4 billion charge in case its takeover of T-Mobile fails, a deal in the range of $39 billion.
