Zune HD Movie Marketplace to Foreshadow Movies for Marketplace for Mobile?

As Microsoft is finalizing details on the Zune HD and ironing out last minute details with content providers and developers for the company’s personal media player, a leaked brochure is showing a possibility of movie show purchases and rentals on the Zune HD Marketplace. The language of the brochure’s title seems kind of odd, stating “explore beyond music at Zune Marketplace.”

If in fact the leaked pamphlet is to be believed, then the Zune Marketplace may at long last support movies purchases and rentals, similar to Apple’s iTunes Store. Hopefully, the Windows Mobile app store–Marketplace for Mobile–will build some synergy with the Zune Marketplace in the future so that Windows Mobile devices could benefit from the added multimedia content. While all Windows Mobile devices could play multimedia files (though many do not support HD TV out), some Windows Phone like the rumored HTC Whitestone are more multimedia centric than others.

Microsoft has somewhat stated its intentions to create a more unified platform, porting the best features of Zune over to Windows Mobile, but the company hasn’t stated when that transition will occur. In the meantime, the blogosphere has been rampant with rumors on the project pink, which highlights a Microsoft-branded device based on Zune Phone. The company has repeatedly denied that it will enter the smartphone space with a branded device as it already works with many device manufacturers, including HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Palm, and others, on the Windows Mobile platform.
