The Leo May NOT Have a Capacitive Screen After All

Today we got a closer glimpse at the HTC Leo than ever before. The device looks to be a powerhouse for multimedia with a massive screen and a 1GHz CPU.

Rumored from the start was that the Leo would be among the first Windows Mobile devices to sport a capacitive display. In fact, the changes to TouchFLO 3D in version 2.5 reinforced this rumor.

But wait a sec, if you take a look at the leaked pictures of the Leo, you'll notice something that is characteristic of resistive touchscreens...that pattern of white dots only visible at certain angles and in certain lighting conditions. The dots are called insulating dots and help a device with a resistive touchscreen know exactly where a screen press takes place. If you blow up the image, as we have below, you can see these dots more clearly.

That said, it's possible that the prototype for the Leo has a resistive touchscreen, and that come time for productive, we will indeed see capacitive. But as it stands now, it doesn't look like the capacitive screen rumor for the Leo will turn out to be true. Yeah, this makes us sad too. We'll keep an eye on this.
