The blogosphere is looking at the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23034, which many is calling a second edition to the Windows Mobile 6.5 build that we saw released at Mobile World Congress.
The new 23034 build has some cosmetic refinements, including a new Start menu location as well as an expandable notification bar as well as rudimentary pivot screens that resemble those found on Windows Mobile 7, the forthcoming operating system that is meant to be competitive with the iPhone.
You can also see a screenshot gallery of the latest build.
When it was announced, Windows Mobile 6.5 was meant to be a an intermediary operating system upgrade to give Microsoft some time while it readies Windows Mobile 7. A Second Edition version of 6.5 may mean that Microsoft still needs more time before Windows Mobile 7 is ready to be loaded onto a device. Windows Mobile 7 is supposed to be a drastic change for the Windows Mobile community, with tech observers noting that it’s similar to the transition between Windows 3.1 and Windows 98, with 6.5 being Windows 95.
Not much details are known whether the latest build video that we’re seeing is in fact a “second edition” or if it will be the final master for 6.5 when released. Here’s to hoping that Microsoft doesn’t further delay Windows Mobile 7.
