The fight for connected smartphones is on, with Motorola’s intentions on getting back into the game with Android. The Windows Mobile maker has committed to bringing several Android devices to the market this year and early next year, and it looks like Motorola’s efforts will be skinned with a UI called Blur. Much in the same way that HTC has skinned Android with its Sense UI, Motorola’s Blur will offer always-on connectivity and hopefully an easier way for users to interact with Android.
The latest rumors have it that Motorola has its eyes set on de-throning the newly released Palm Pre with its internet-connectivity to access information, pulling contact and calendar data over the air from hosted services like Google and from social networks like Facebook.
Moreover, Motorola is aiming for Blur to be updatable over the air (OTA). Parts of the UI and the OS can be updated through instant firmware updates, simplifying the process for consumers. Hear that Microsoft? How about turning on that Windows Update function on Windows Mobile?
It is anyone’s guess whether Blur will make it future Motorola-made Windows Phone. Rival HTC has committed to bringing the Sense UI to Windows Mobile.
