The HTC Kaiser, from that we first heard about it in early 2007, has been the subject of much excitement within the Windows Mobile community. It’s not often that we see a device pack so much functionality: GPS, HSDPA, WiFi, and a tilting screen just to name a few particulars. AT&T was first to release a variant of the device on its network, dubbed the Tilt, here in the US. What is to follow is a compilation of the video reviews that we’ve done of the device, with some more insights added towards the end.

PRODUCT FEATURES
The obligatory unboxing video.
In Part 1, I look at hardware on the phone.
In Part 2, I talk about the keyboard, the utility of the tilting screen, and demonstrate the finger-scroll capability that comes from TouchFLO (with a comparison to the finger-scrolling of the iPhone).
In Part 3, I talk about customizations I made to the AT&T Tilt using the
HTC home
plugin, and the
Gx5 Ultimate Search
bar.
Finally, in Part 4, I talk about what can be found in the Program menu of the Tilt, and also mention
Google Maps for mobile
and
Live search for mobile
.

This device does a lot, there’s no doubt about it, but the manifestation of these features is a device that is heavy, bulky, and not as fast as it should be. If you’re a regular user of an HTC Wizard or Hermes, or use a device that has a larger form factor with a slide out keyboard, the Tilt is a good upgrade for you. But if you’re used to having something that is easily pocketable, is quick and responsive, and is easy to use one-handed, then you’ll be disappointed by the Tilt. It’s really a matter of what you’re akin to.
