INTRODUCTION
Some days, you just don't want to be dressed
to the nines - or even the sixes. Lazy days or afternoons where you want to
feel comfortable but warm. Problem is, if you are a gadget collector, like
myself, a lazy afternoon jacket just doesn't generally provide the proper
number of pockets for gear. Scott from SCOTTeVEST
(SeV) must have been feeling the same when he created his new Ultimate
Hoodie. Does it compare to the rest of the SeV line? Can it provide good gadget
space while still maintaining a comfortable fit? Read on for the review!
SeV BILLBOARD
?
Okay, so these
days we are all walking billboards. Not a day passes without seeing someone
or something being advertised on a jacket, shirt, or shoes. Up to this point
SeV's logo placement has been small and unobtrusive. The Ultimate Hoodie deviates
from this with a HUGE copy of the logo smack dab on the back (Figure 1).
Thankfully, the screen printed art and embroidered "e" logo are
tastefully done on the dark gray distressed cotton. Strangely, I never got
a single comment about the size of the logo - so people either didn't mind,
or my mad ninja skills kept me from ever being spotted.

POCKETABLE
With six pockets, you've got plenty of space
for your gear and your hands. On the upper left of the jacket, you'll find
the first (Figure 2). It's a small zippered pocket, with a second
zippered pocket hiding inside. Since it also has a magnetic closure, this
is the perfect place for my cell phone. In fact, I can even slip my current
e815 into the pocket without even separating the magnets (assuming the zipper
is down), and not worry about it falling out (as the pocket is deep).

Figure 2:
The zippered upper pocket.
Inside the hoodie, the texture is almost like a soft hand towel, save the upper pocket area which has more of a satin feel. Two pen holders can be found here along with the patented PAN (Personal Area Network) holes for running all your cables through (Figure 3). Normally, you would run the cables out up through the lining of the jacket, then out the PAN holes. But since there is no lining, SeV has made up for it by including extra collar loops along the zipper on both sides.

Figure 3:A

The hand warming pockets are also magnetically closed off (Figure 4). Thankfully, the magnet is closer to the bottom of the opening, so one can still insert one's hands without actually having to pop the magnets loose. Inside each warming pocket is a bottle holding loop along with a very, very small pocket (which is more like a Velcro'd flap).

Figure 4:
The hand warming pocket and magnetic closure.
In the right pocket, we also find a removable key fob attached to a plastic clip via a canvas like strap (Figure 5).

Figure 5:From
the world view, the look is sleek but mysterious.
WEAR
IT OUT
The distressed look certainly adds to the casual
feel. Even the ends of the hood pull strings are frayed. Wearing this hoodie
is almost like putting on your favorite t-shirt. It feels already worn in.
The jacket is closed by a single zipper (Figure 6).

Figure 6:Up

Since the fabric is so lightweight, I did have some issues with carrying heavier objects in the front hand warmer pockets, but found if I was able to slip them into the bottle holders, it didn't look as funky. You could dress it up a little with a collared shirt, as well as keeping the Saturday morning feel with just a t-shirt (Figure 7).

Figure 7:Hood
down with a collared shirt.
From the rear (Figure 8), you can see the large SeV logo, but it doesn't stand out too much from the overall design or feel. The hood, when down, does not cover up the logo at all.

Have a need to protect your head from the weather, or just be a little more inconspicuous? Then pull up the hood (Figure 9).

PURCHASING
You can purchase
SeV's Ultimate Hoodie here for $69.99 USD.
PROS
- Comfortable
- Lots of pockets for your gear
- Lightweight
CONS
- Thinner material can make magnetic closures harder to use
- Large logo placement
OVERALL
IMPRESSION
I do find myself
choosing the SeV Hoodie over other jackets recently. Which is strange, as
I like to change jackets throughout the week. Whether it's because I don't
want to wear a heavy jacket, or if I'm just needing something to go out to
the mailbox with, the SeV Ultimate Hoodie has been making my other jackets
rather jealous. Perfect for the gadget collector, as it has a good amount
of pocket space, but also stylish enough that you don't have to be a complete
geek to wear one. Yes, the logo on the back is large, but who isn't wearing
clothing that advertises for the manufacturer these days? Taking all this
into consideration, I give the SeV Ultimate Hoodie the following score:
