Picture Editing Made Easy (2/2)

Resco Photo Viewer v6.33

By: Erik Schnebli | Date: 3-Jul-09 | Comments

HELP SUPPORT

The software does not come with a help section or any guide which is kind of disappointing. However, the user manual which you can download from Resco’s site is very detailed and well-written and it can help those who get stuck or don’t know how to do something.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Resco Photo Viewer takes up 1.9MB of storage space and uses about 2.5MB of RAM. The software supports both Touch screen and Non-Touch screen devices and can be used with both Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6.

BUGS AND WISHES

When browsing your images, once you select one you can’t scroll or flick the screen to get to the next one. You have to go back to the album view in order to do that. A browsing feature, like the one in TouchFLO 3D would be a welcome addition.

A more important feature, for which the program received criticism in previous releases as well, yet there’s still no sign of, is the Undo feature. You can restore the changes you’ve made to an image, however, if you made several changes and you only want to restore the last one, there is no possibility for it.

Finally, the process of creating a new album is also a bit awkward and took me some time to figure out.  In order to create one, you have to have some images selected else the program will give an error and won’t comply. Simplifying this procedure would be a welcome change.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Overall, I think that Resco Photo Viewer is a really nice application to have, especially if you don't have a device that has an advantaged image viewer (none have a good image editor). The image editing tools, which are so dearly missed in the standard Windows Mobile Pictures & Videos tools, are worth it alone. If you need to do some image editing while using your Windows Mobile device, you should definitely try Resco Photo Viewer.
