QuickLook: callpod chargepod

Legacy | June 29, 2007 12:00 AM

SPECIFICATIONS

The main unit takes in 110 through 240v at 50-60 Hz. It outputs 500mA to each of the six ports via voltage regulator technology. It’s reasonably small at: 2.75"W [69.85mm] x 2.70"L [68.60mm] x 0.72"H [18.30mm], weighing in at: 1.12 oz [32g]. It also packs one green power light and six blue charging lights. More on this later.

AT A GLANCE

(all images link to higher resolution)

The unit is very stylish and looks contemporarily cool sitting on a desk. The blue LEDs emit a nice hue, but are quite bright… A good add-on with this item was the carry bag; I found this increased the portability.

The unit ships in a blister pack with easy-open back panel.

In the box/case: wall adapter, chargepod, carry case, manual.

Small and stylish… UFO chique?

The unit is studded with seven ports: six out, one in.

Adapters for various devices ship in many flavors, but must be purchased separately.

Here’s the unit in use under medium lighting conditions.

Here’s the same shot under very low light; the LEDs emit a strong blue hue.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

If you are looking for a stylish solution to the cord jungle under your desk, this device won’t disappoint. It works as advertised and looks good doing it. It’s not as cheap as just using the individual adapters that came with your device; to completely kit out the chargepod it will run you almost $100.00. If you have a funky apartment/house/condo though, or just despise the look of tangled cords, then check it out.
