QuickLook: Brando MP4 Watch

Legacy | October 2, 2007 12:00 AM

SPECIFICATIONS

This little guy packs in a surprising amount of functionality: audio/visual file formats, builtin equalizer, FM radio, the ability to use the watch as a removable storage device, and it tells the time! From the Brando site, here are some more specs:

  • 1GB or 2GB flash memory
  • 128×128 pixel screen
  • MP4 Player + Music Player + FM Radio + Digital Watch + Voice Recorder
  • USB 2.0
  • Support MP3, AVI, MPG, MPEG, WMV, DAT, ASF, ASX, WMA and MP4 format
  • 6 equalizer modes

AT A GLANCE

(all images link to higher resolution)

The following images depict the watch and accessories:

The watch ships in a brightly colored box, guaranteed to catch the eye of kids everywhere!

Contents: MP4 Watch, microUSB and A/C charger, PC Driver, Manual, 2.5mm headset.

The watch is reasonable large with a 1.5" (128×128 resolution) screen.

The back, next and menu buttons as with the charging port are visible on the right hand side.

The left hand side contains the up/down volume buttons and play/pause/stop button. The headset jack is also visible.

The under belly is lacking any specific markings, just a "1GB FM" sticker.

The latch… I found this piece of material to be cheap and rough. A shame, as it detracts from the overall simplicity of the device.

Here’s the watch with the time/date view. Although this is not on all the time, it’s the default screensaver mode.

Here’s another look at the screen, this time the charging icon is displayed.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

As noted, the concept is great. It’s a simple pervasive way to carry data, listen to mp3′s and even watch mp4 clips. I hope Brando improve upon the design, essentially simplifying the menu and adding a decent clip. These two changes would increase usability and function. Hopefully future iterations will face these flaws. Otherwise, video and audio work well.
