HP iPAQ 910 Business Messenger with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

HELP SUPPORT

I'm quite pleased with HP's help and support. Their website does a good job in bringing coverage and support to the iPAQ with good tips and a ROM update that came out in July.

BATTERY LIFE

An issue I've noticed is that the battery life hasn't really lived up to such a large battery. I barely make it through the day with one charge and light loads of full Exchange, little calls and Bluetooth; it also does heat up a bit. It could be something a ROM update could solve so let's hope HP is writing this down.

BUGS AND WISHES

I did quite a lot of testing to the iPAQ and I must say I found it to need a ROM update and soon. These are not common bugs, but do happen:

  • The Bluetooth stack responsiveness has to improve, as Voice Commander never works well with any headset I've tested it with
  • The keyboard will sometimes simply stop working when coming out of standby
  • The device will tend to sometimes forget it has a storage card loaded on it
  • The software keyboard's left and right sides show the application bellow it

PURCHASING

The HP iPAQ can be had for just $499.99 over at HP.

PROS

  • Sleek and elegant design
  • Affordable price
  • Unlocked quadband GSM and triband UMTS
  • WiFi/HSDPA/aGPS

CONS

  • Buggy
  • Inadequate battery life
  • Screen is not flush
  • Lacks essential accessories
  • Cannot change screen orientation
  • Lacks FM Radio
  • Lack of UI enhancements

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Cons aside, the design simply falls under what I would call a nice looking piece of hardware. I simply can't avoid people staring at it and asking me where they can buy one. HP does need to go back to the drawing board immediately and fix the bugs to make this a true competitor. My overall impression in the end is that once these issues are solved, the device, with some additional third party app's can become a winner. The only problem is, the clock is ticking, and fall's new line up of competition does require HP to move fast.
