Aliph’s Jawbone

WHAT’S HOT

The Adaptive Headset Technology is quite amazing.
In every test I ran, my friends, family, and coworkers were impressed
with the clarity of the headset and the almost complete lack of background
noise. During one test, I had the music turned up to
the proverbial 11, and they could only hear music (and muted at that)
when I spoke. Otherwise the line was extremely quiet.

IN THE BOX

The box. Already you can
tell that this is going to be more than just a $20 headset from your
local electronics store.

Inside the box is a small
carrying bag, and the headset.

The manuals and proper
fit guide.

The headset in its entirety.
Yes, that is a lot of cable. About five feet of it. And herein lies
the biggest negative comment from both myself and the other people I
have shown the Jawbone: almost too bulky to deal with. Almost.

FEATURES

First, let’s review the basic Jawbone features
(taken from Aliph):

HELP SUPPORT

    Along with the included documentation
and manuals, Aliph also
has .pdfs and contact information available on their website.

BUGS AND WISHES

    I
found no fatal errors (being a hardware review), and my wishlist
is short:

    • Soften the edges of the belt
clip to make it more comfortable
    • Design
a slightly smaller speaker (for those smaller ears)
    • Remove
small burrs on speaker (this may have been a flaw in just this
      unit)
    • Bluetooth!
(this is, as I mentioned, already on their product map for the
      future)

PURCHASING

    You
can buy
the Jawbone directly from Aliph. The price shown is $149.95.

PROS

  • Very
    comfortable (for medium-large ears)

  • Adaptive
    Headset Technology is superb

  • Very
    little battery draw

  • Small
    form factor (on ear)

CONS

  • Slightly
    uncomfortable (on smaller ears)

  • Belt
    clip is a little sharp

  • Lots
    of cable to manipulate

  • Price

OVERALL IMPRESSION

I listed the price as a con simply because
their are much cheaper headsets on the market today. But when
you consider the technology behind the Jawbone, the price is right
in line. Overall, I was very pleased with this headset. Not only
comfortable but also quite amazing when it came to eliminating
background noise. Plus the "Wow" factor was quite high
(everyone wanted to know what it was and how it worked). So as
soon as the bluetooth model comes available, you will most likely
find me at the front of the line.

Have you used the
Jawbone? See something that isn’t quite right? Tell us what you
think! Click on the Discussion Link below.
