I must admit, through all my time in the Pocket PC community, I have never seen such an amazing act of community teamwork. I must extend my congratulations to Russ Smith, Aquila, and bitbank (Larry Bank) of the Brighthand forums for an incredible job of writing a “driver” for the Gravis Stinger Gamepad to make it compatible with StrongARM processors.
The story is quite a long one, most if not all details can be found at these two Brighthand threads: 1 and 2, but I will try to make the story short.
Russ Smith had an idea to get the Stinger Gamepad to work on devices that have the problem of not recognizing two buttons pushed simultaneously – for example the Ipaq and the Jornada. Throughout this long journey people joined in to offer suggestions and ideas. Finally, Larry Bank from BitBank Software picked up Russ’s idea and created a whole driver from the ground up.
It works flawlessly. A great congratulations to everyone who participated in this, and to Larry Bank and Russ Smith especially, who have accomplished a great deed for the community. Information on where to download, etc can be located in the thread links provided above.
