Opera, the creators of Opera Mobile & Mini, announced via Twitter that “the next generation in mobile browsing” is “coming very soon.” This obviously sounds exciting, but what exactly is coming soon and how will it impact Windows Mobile users? Opera confirmed last month that they were working on Opera Mobile for the Android platform, so let’s hope this news isn’t related. As for Windows Mobile, could it be an update to Opera Mobile 9.7? Perhaps, Opera Mini is getting a facelift with OM 4.5 or 5.0?
The link Opera provides on their Twitter leads us to their “Next” page, which gives us the “Coming Very Soon” teaser and not much else. Well, after a little digging, it looks like the page could be describing Opera Mini 5.0. A month ago, Opera tweeted to a user proclaiming that Opera Mini 5 is “coming soon.” Considering Opera Mini hasn’t been updated in almost a year, it certainly makes sense that it could be the subject of the big news. If it is, in fact, regarding a major update to Opera Mini, what do they have up their sleeves and what will 5.0 bring to the table? Apparently, we will find out soon enough. We’ll keep you posted.
Update: the puzzle on Opera’s teaser page is slowly unveiling. Now, you can clearly see it’s somebody’s hands holding a mobile device. Once fully “solved,” the puzzle should show which Opera browser is getting the update.
