The total number of Internet users will double to more than 1.1 billion by the end of 2005, according to the study by Computer Industry Almanac. The number of users will reach almost 1.5 billion worldwide by 2007, with almost 59 percent of those users having wireless access.
In industrialized countries, wireless access will increasingly supplement desktop Net access but in less developed countries, it will be a primary form of Internet access, the study said.
This means that wireless equipped devices like Pocket PCs may play an even greater role in the developing nations than do their desktop counterparts.
