It’s not often that we get an opportunity to save any money on a current-gen iPhone; after all, Apple manages to keep the demand up through a combination of advertising, software updates, and the occasional hardware tweak, such that it doesn’t really need to cut any discounts in order to encourage consumers to go out and buy the phone. That’s why we’re so surprised to hear that Walmart is knocking 25% off the cost of the 16GB iPhone 4, with a promotion running through the end of the month that offers the smartphone for $147 on-contract.
The prices have already been updated on Walmart’s website, though stocks are currently marked as delepted. If you want to get an iPhone 4 at this new low price, your best bet may be checking out local brick-and-mortart Walmart stores. The sale is supposed to go on until June 30, but that’s assuming Walmart can keep up with the demand all month long.
So far, the store is the only retailer that’s announced this price cut, but as we approach fall and the expected reveal of the iPhone 4S / iPhone 5, it may not be the last to try this kind of a stunt. Walmart’s prices are effective for both the black and the white iPhone 4, on either AT&T or Verizon. With iOS 5 and all its new features on the way, this might be just the time to pick up an iPhone on the cheap.
