There were several reports of even more users complaining about the slow speeds on Sprint while using the new iPhone 4S and the carrier even allegedly sent out an internal memo confirming the issues. Furthermore, Sprint is also purportedly working with Apple, according to the same alleged memo, in order to fix the problems via a “Service Settings” update.
In an official statement — “the only official statement regarding the status of the iPhone 4S on the Sprint network” — the carrier says: “overall, iPhone performance on the Sprint network is consistent with our expectations and the rest of our high-end portfolio. Sprint also did bench-marking of Sprint’s iPhone against competitor’s iPhones and the testing showed little to no performance difference”.
However, there is, as always, room for improvement. Spring acknowledges that there are “opportunities to optimize performance, specifically in high network capacity areas” but this falls into the category of “typical optimization work and do not have any specific area of concern”.
