Want streaming TV and movies on your iPhone but aren’t exactly enamored by the subscription-supported model used by the likes of Hulu Plus? Sony’s to the rescue with Crackle, giving you a new free option for access to streaming TV and movies.
The selection doesn’t match what you’d get with Netflix or Hulu Plus, but it’s hard to beat the price, so long as you don’t mind sitting through 30-second commercials before viewing your selection. The movies and TV shows that are available through Crackle aren’t the latest and greatest, but there’s a solid assortment of quality entertainment to be had. Full-length movies include classics like Ghostbusters as well as more modern selections like Snatch and The Da Vinci Code. TV fans will find much-loved programs like Seinfeld, which frankly everyone could stand to watch a little more of, and the under-appreciated NewsRadio
Sony promises to keep adding new content to what’s available, so that selection should only improve. Streaming is available over both WiFi and 3G connections, and the app should support any iPhone running iOS 4.0 or later. Crackle’s available now as a free download in the App Store.
