This is the part where I hate rumors. Just when many of us were hoping next week’s music event would show us some sort of cloud based iTunes service where we can finally have streamed access of our music over when storage becomes an issue, AllThingsD says not so fast..
Rumors are that it’s not going to the cloud, or at least not yet. Whispers mention they’re gonna implement a sort of social network for music. You’d say that’s not so bad if you could share music with your friends, they’d hear what you’re listening and all, but that’s not quite the deal either. It seems all you’ll be able to do is talk about music, comment on music and.. that’s it. Lame, I know! What’s it gonna be called? Musicbook or MusicSpace?.. Like if we couldn’t do this on Facebook or MySpace already. Sadly, if this is the case, I really don’t see where innovation will make the concept survive, but knowing how Apple reacts to flops, let’s hope they don’t come out with another “It’s a hobby” excuse like they did with Apple TV’s failure.
Oh well.. The only good part of the rumor is that apparently Apple is working on a wireless way to have you sync your devices, which is quite overdue. They’ll most likely have this work over Wi-Fi since Bluetooth is still not a common deal outside the Mac world just yet. We’ll see what happens September 1st.
