We’ve heard rumors about its capabilities. We’ve seen pictures of what’s supposed to be its hardware. With all the talking that’s been done regarding Apple’s next tablet, we’re anxiously awaiting things to go official, and see Apple formally unveil its iPad 3. We’ve been looking forward to March with the hopes that Apple would finally follow-through and reveal the tablet; a new rumor out today supports that idea, claiming that Apple has its event planned for March 7.
That date has risen as the most likely candidate for a couple reasons. It fits with the tradition of early March iPad announcements that Apple’s been following since the line debuted. March 7 is also a Wednesday, which Apple likes to use, and the venue that hosted the previous two iPad events has its schedule wide-open for that date (suggesting Apple’s already booked the day and is just keeping its name off the calendar for the time being).
Interestingly, this rumor also mentions iPad 3 hardware, including the claim that it will, in fact, feature a quad-core processor. We’ve been hearing things on both sides of this issue; at this point, it seems like we just might have to wait for Apple to confirm things.
Last year, invitations for Apple’s iPad 2 announcement went out about a week before the event; we’ll likely see them arrive along a similar timetable this year.
