We knew Apple had to do something for all of us MobileMe users. Its great to see iCloud becoming a free service, but I must admit I did feel ripped off after paying $100 for the now deceased MobileMe. As of iOS 5 beta 5, developers are given all the instructions needed for the optional transition to iCloud that will publicly become an option this fall when iOS 5 gets released.
You’re not obligated to migrate MobileMe with iCloud and can actually get a different @me.com email address just by setting up iCloud. The advantage of choosing to migrate, is that on top of the free 5GB of storage included in iCloud, you’ll have the added bonus of 20 extra GB of storage, which you initially paid for in MobileMe.
We’re not sure if this will continue after MobileMe gets fully cancelled by Apple next year, but migrating is something we do recommend to anybody that owns more than one iOS device. 5GB of storage for your settings and App content is more than enough for one device, but can be challenging for those who own more.
