Following the recent tragic events in Japan, Apple’s upcoming iOS 5 mobile platform is said to have an early earthquake warning in place for Japan, accessible from the new Notification tray.
The user will have the ability to turn these notifications on or off. If kept on, the system can warn of an upcoming earthquake a few seconds to a couple of minutes before it occurs. There’s of course a downside to the notification as it affects battery life being always connected to Japan’s earthquake warning system (but there’s really no place for debate here).
