Woke up this morning to the news that Autodesk was finally gonna return to Mac OS AutoCAD software development after 18 years of sworn separation. Cool enough for Mac users, but what I didn’t expect is for them to also be developing an iOS app that will be compatible with the iPhone and iPad.
If engineering is your thing, surely this will be a thrill. The only problem with the mobile portion of the news is that the iOS version, called AutoCAD WS, will be more of a viewer than a creator. You’ll be able to edit, annotate within and share your DWG files, but that’s pretty much it, though it’s still a lot considering this is as hardcore as apps can get for a desktop computer. The cool part of this whole thing is that it’ll be free, so I know it’ll be a good mobile solution for many engineers who spend lots of time on their project sites and not in front of a computer. To know more about AutoCAD WS, sign up for the service and get notified when the iOS version will hit itunes, here’s their site.
