If there were rumors floating around according to which Apple would be abandoning Google’s map offering and go its own way — later countered by additional information — Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google, gave out some official information about the matter.
Talking about the issue at D9, Mr. Android said that Google has “a partnership with Apple. We compete with them. We have a very, very good maps partnership and search partnership”. If Apple was to go its own way it would be very surprising after reaching an agreement with Google. According to some more information, Apple is allegedly planning on improving the mapping application on its upcoming iOS version — to be announced at next week’s WWDC — but still use Google Maps data for the (at least near) future.
