You’d think the Cat & Mouse game is over, but it’s far from it. The Dev-Team just confirmed they won’t be releasing a Jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2, which is sad for the most part, but not completely. Why? Well this is bad news for those who buy an iPhone 4 right now, get it with iOS 4.0.2, and are left without an option to Jailbreak. The good news though is that they’ve made the decision so they can focus all their efforts on iOS 4.1 which is supposed to be right around the corner.
According to their blog: “No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was only released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.”
As always, they can’t assure it’ll have backwards compatibility with previous iOS versions, but the fact that they’ve got all their geniuses focused on iOS 4.1 makes me smile and think that Game Center with some Jailbroken benefits won’t be far from our reach if it does become a reality on September 1st as we’re speculating. We’ll see what happens next week..
