Imagination Technologies announced that its new Power VR Series6 GPU family will kick off with the PowerVR G6200 and G6400 GPU IP cores. Imagination Technologies’ GPUs are used by Apple in their own chip powering the iPhone and the iPad.
The dual-core processor which is powering the iPhone 4S is 73% percent faster, according to reports, than the one used in the previous version of the iPhone. The new Power VR Series6 GPU family from Imagination Technologies is said to improve at least by 20 times the performance over the current offering. Without making any announcement, it is still highly possible, based on the history between Apple and Imagination Technologies, that the new chip (probably the A6) that will power the upcoming iPhone and iPad will incorporate the fresh Power VR Series6 GPU.
