Along with Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 4S, they also revealed how they’ll be integrating their recent purchase of Siri into their new device. Siri will be the new built-in assistant for iPhone 4S owners. It’ll allow you to speak to your iPhone in your natural language in a conversational manner. You can ask your iPhone to wake you up at 6am, for example, and Siri will respond with setting your alarm for that time.
Siri also works with other built-in apps, allows dictation, and works over 3G and Wi-Fi. We’re still not sure if it’ll only work through a data connection, but with the iPhone 4S just 10 days away, we’ll find out soon enough. Sadly Siri won’t be bundled with iOS 5 on the rest of the iPhones that will remain in the market, so don’t keep your hopes up unless you upgrade.
