By most accounts, there are still well over four months between now and when Apple may unveil the next iPhone. With that time winding down, Apple’s going to have to make some final decisions about the phone’s hardware before it commits to manufacturing. According to the latest rumor, though, Apple’s still mulling-over a few design choices before it commits to a final layout, leaving some questions about the smartphone’s specs still up-in-the-air.

According to iMore’s sources, some of the rumors we’ve heard about iPhone 5 hardware, like a reduced-sized docking connector, are a done deal at this point. There are others, though, and unfortunately covering some area’s we’re quite interested in, which Apple has supposedly yet to commit to. These include certain decisions about the phone’s body, especially regarding what materials will make up the handset’s shell, as well as those regarding the model’s display, including both size and aspect ratio. Whatever Apple ends up going with, the source behind this info claims it won’t be a huge change – no five-inch screens.

One more aspect of the phone’s design that has reportedly been finalized is the continued presence of a physical home button, which makes sense given the new component we’ve seen.

Even with Apple still working through these final decisions, the next iPhone is still expected to launch in or around October.
