According to the recently surfaced rumors, Apple has acquired a 3D mapping company called C3 Technologies and according to reports, CEO Mattias Astrom, CFO Kjell Cederstrand, and Product Manager Ludvig Emgard, are now working with the iOS division.
C3 Technologies is making 3D maps using photographic data from declassified missile-targeting technology. Even in the latest, fifth major iteration of Apple’s iOS, Cupertino is using Google’s mapping data but with rumored acquisition of its now third map-related company (together with PlaceBase and Poly9), Apple might have a couple of aces up its sleeve for a major iOS Maps overhaul.
