Been keeping up with your next-gen iPhone rumors? One of the more pervasive ones we’ve been hearing deals with Apple releasing multiple models; these possibilities have covered everything from a mini iPhone, to a slightly-upgraded iPhone 4, to an iPhone 5 with a larger-than-ever display. The truth could lie with several, or maybe just one of these options. The latest rumor to carry some weight says that there will be some sort of next-gen iPhone, whether that’s a 4S or a 5, but alongside that Apple will be releasing a prepaid budget model that may be nothing more than the 3GS.
BGR sites an “incredibly solid source” for this rumor, placing the cost of this prepaid iPhone at $350 or less. There’s a chance that this phone could represent new hardware, in which case it would likely be iPhone 4-level tech, but it could just as easily be the plain, old 3GS. While we can see there being a market for the former, it’s hard say if Apple could make the 3GS attractive enough again, over two years since its release.
According to this source, we’ll be getting official news from Apple about its next iPhone plans before the end of August; stay tuned!
