As plenty of Apple fans spend this week waiting for their new iPhone 4S models to ship out to them, those sticking with older hardware are on the lookout for the arrival of iOS 5. That’s supposed to get here tomorrow, but before you can upgrade your iPhone, you’re going to need the latest iTunes 10.5. We were told to expect it just before Apple made the iOS 5 update available, and sure enough, iTunes 10.5 is now going out to users.
Obviously, the big push in this release is with support for iCloud services. This will introduce features like the ability to re-download previous iTunes purchases, as well as to have purchases made through one device automatically downloaded to another (Android Market-style). Sync over WiFi will keep your iPhone up-to-date when it’s connected to your home network, and Apple throws in a few security fixes to keep iTunes one step ahead of any nasty hackers.
Get your iTunes 10.5 update installed now, if only so that’s one less thing you have to do tomorrow when the big iOS 5 release is made.
