After a little more than three months since its official introduction, the Apple iPhone 4S went on sale (will be going on sale) today in China and 21 additional countries. These include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, China, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Guam, Guinea Conakry, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and Uganda.
However, the launch in China wasn’t a flawless one. The Apple Store in Beijing’s Sanlitun district failed to open; the crowd was told “the phone wouldn’t go on sale today”, probably in order to avoid furhter violence (after some reports of overnight animosities). On the opposite side, the Apple Store in the Xidan neighborhood handed out 1,000 tickets which enable the purchase of two iPhone 4S handsets each. Shanghai’s Pudong district store even opened an hour earlier than scheduled and sold out immediately.
