There ars only a few nights to sleep until Apple’s own Steve Jobs goes on stage to show iOS 5 to the world. Many features have been rumored around the next generation Apple mobile OS and it appears that the new platform will support automatic over-the-air app updates.
Currently, when an application you have installed on your iPhone has an update ready, you will receive a notification on your App Store icon and also, when you sync, iTunes checks for updates automatically and syncs the new versions to your phone. iTunes has recently leak a possible future iOS 5 feature when checking for update.
It returns the following line in the App Updates screen: “Or if your device has Automatic Download enabled for apps, your updates will download to your device without having to sync”. There’s no automatic download setting in iOS at the moment and no way of automatically updating your apps. Chances are that this will indeed exist in iOS 5 but we’ll learn more about the platform this coming week.
